Thank you for using FocusRead. This privacy policy explains how we handle your information. Our philosophy is simple: we collect the absolute minimum information necessary for the extension to function, and we never see or store your personal data on our own servers.

Information We Handle

To provide its features, our extension needs to handle three types of data:

• User-Provided API Key: To use the AI Quiz feature, you must provide your own Google Gemini API key.
• User-Generated Scores: When you complete a "Reading Challenge," your final score, the date, and the article's title are saved to create your personal leaderboard.
• Webpage Content: To generate a quiz, the text content of the webpage you are actively reading is processed.

How We Use and Store Information

Your privacy and security are our top priorities.

• API Key and Scores: Your Gemini API key and high scores are stored exclusively on your local computer using Chrome's secure storage (`chrome.storage.sync` and `chrome.storage.local`). We, the developers, do not have a server, and we never see, collect, or have access to your API key or your scores. The data remains in your browser.
• Webpage Content: The text from your active webpage is only sent to Google's API when you explicitly click the "Generate Quiz" button. This content is not stored by our extension.

Third-Party Services (Google Gemini)

The AI Quiz feature relies on a third-party service: Google's Generative Language API (Gemini).

When you request a quiz, the text content of the article you are reading is sent to Google's servers to generate the questions. Your use of this feature is subject to Google's own terms and privacy policies. We encourage you to review them here: https://policies.google.com/privacy
